Itinerary: Marrakech to Merzouga 5-day desert tour
With this 5-day itinerary from Marrakech to Merzouga, explore the amazing journey via breathtaking views, historic sites, and the alluring beauty and culture of the Sahara Desert.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley
We depart from Marrakech to begin our journey to Dades Valley. We make brief stops to snap pictures as we cross the high Atlas Mountains, passing through Tizi-n-Tishka. We are going to the Ait Ben Haddou village, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Particularly, it’s the ideal location for well-known filmmakers. and then continue with our day, taking in the stunning natural scenery of Roses Valley, also known for the Festival of Roses. We will stay the overnight at A hotel or Riad in Dades Valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge – Merzouga
Today’s target point is arriving at Merzouga which is known for the highest dunes in North Africa. THE DESERT! It is called the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert. On our way, we will have the chance to see many Berber villages and visit the Todra Gorges where we will have free time to walk and explore the Grand Canyon.
We will continue to Merzouga and greet our camels waiting to take us on an adventure in the dunes. We will spend the night in an equipped camp in the middle of the Sahara! This is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures of the sunset and sunrise. Night in the desert tents under the sky.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga desert
On the third day of our 5 days from Marrakech to Merzouga, We will wake up early morning to watch a spectacular sunrise over the dunes, and after breakfast at the camp, we will ride the camels back to Merzouga village.
We will start our journey around Merzouga to visit Khamlia village, Black desert, Mines village, and a visit nomadic family where we will stay to have a cup of tea.
After lunch, we will drop you at a Merzouga hotel where you can relax and spend the night ( You can spend the night again in the camp if you want upon request ).
Day 4: Merzouga - Rissani - Draa valley - Ouarzazate
Today after breakfast, We take an alternate route via Rissani, heading towards Agdez. We will pause for lunch at Alnif, N’kob, as we travel through. In the distance, we will traverse the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s largest valleys, famous for its huge palm tree groves. When we get to Ouarzazate, we spend the night at a hotel or Riad.
Day 5: Ouarzazate - Ounila Valley - Marrakech
After breakfast, explore the town of Ouarzazate, the Kasbah of Taourirt, and the Atlas Studios, the largest and most famous film studio in Africa. Back on the road, head to Ounila Valley via Kasbah Telouat, before driving back over the winding Tizi-n-Tichka pass to Marrakech. end of our 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga.
